Over the coming year, Sotheby's will present the unique collection of two eminent Parisian socialites, art lovers and philanthropists: late Count Edouard de Ribes and his wife Jacqueline whose elegance and timeless style were celebrated in a retrospective at the Metropolitan Museum of New York in 2015-2016. |
Coming from the ancestral home of the de Ribes family, this collection is distinguished by its exceptional quality, remarkable state of preservation and the provenance of many of its pieces (including Queen Marie-Antoinette). Comprising of paintings and drawings from the 17th to the 19th century, sculpture and furniture, this outstanding collection will be dispersed in a series of three sales: the first two auctions, on 11 and 12 December 2019, will be dedicated to the "Treasures" and to the de Ribes family's phenomenal library. Furthermore, the content of the "hotel particulier", one of the last noble houses in Paris, will be auctioned next year, during spring. |
