CHILDREN MAKE THE DECISION |
UNTIL 25 NOVEMBER 2018
Kunsten Museum of Modern Art | Aalborg, DENMARK |
|
Featuring a total of four works by Tino Sehgal, this exhibition develops itself around a central one - This success/This failure, 2006 - that involves more than 1,500 children who are constructing it until 25 November. |
Tino Sehgal (b.1976 London) is regarded as one of today’s great proponents of live art. He creates encounters and experiences. In the absence of any written rules about how to execute the works, everything is transferred orally from the artist to chosen ‘interpreters’ - dancers, singers, children or visitors - who enact the works. |
So, what does happen if the hierarchy is turned upside down and children are the decision-makers? Does something which only exist in the experience and memory have any value? Does anything of value actually have to be measured and weighed? These are some of the questions that Tino Sehgal poses with This success/This failure, 2006 at Kunsten, within the extraordinarily beautiful setting created by Alvar Aalto and in close collaboration with an institution renowned for getting children involved in art. |
